Congratulations on adding a new dog to your home! To be prepared for your newest addition, please refer to our checklist below.

Essentials for Everyday Care:

  • Collar and leash (appropriate size for your dog)

    • For dogs new to your home, we recommend a martingale collar and a slip lead

  • ID tags with your contact information are required when adopting from Pippy’s Pals Rescue

  • Food and water bowls

    • We recommend a slow feeder for food bowl as it takes your dog longer to eat and is an enrichment activity

  • High-quality dog food appropriate for your dog's age and size

    • We like Open Farm, Farmer’s Dog, Pet Plate and Darwin’s Raw Food

  • Treats for training and rewards

  • Dog bed and crate (we highly recommend

  • Dog-safe toys for play and mental stimulation

Grooming Supplies:

  • Dog shampoo and conditioner

  • Brush or comb suitable for your dog's coat type

  • Toothbrush and toothpaste formulated for dogs

  • Ear cleaning solution

  • Towels for bathing

Healthcare and Hygiene:

  • Dog collar with ID tags

  • Dog license (if required in your area)

  • Flea and tick prevention products

  • Heartworm prevention medication

  • First aid kit for dogs (including bandages, antiseptic wipes, and any prescribed medications)

  • Poop bags for cleaning up during walks

Comfort and Safety:

  • Comfortable and secure harness (if preferred over a collar)

  • Doggie seatbelt or car safety harness for travel

  • Pet gate or baby gate to restrict access to certain areas of the house

  • Dog-proofing supplies (e.g., cabinet locks, trash cans with secure lids)

  • Comfortable and appropriate clothing for cold weather (e.g., coats, booties)
