MAXIE
Maxie was brought into the local shelter with her one puppy. They were always cuddling together inside the kennel. When her puppy was adopted, Maxie became very depressed. She loves company so having her puppy gone was too sad for her.
We didn't want a sad and lonely life for her to persist in the shelter environment, so we pulled her and put her into foster.
In her foster home, Maxie showed us just how much love she has to give. She is extremely affectionate and loves to cuddle. She is fantastic with the 3 young kids in the home - always cuddling next to them while they are doing an activity. She also enjoys the company of the resident dog (although, he doesn't care about her).
Overall, she is a low energy dog who would be very content in a home environment where someone was around most of the time (either works from home or retired), had a few short walks, and lots of snuggle time.
She would be happy with or without children in the home. She would LOVE a playful/social dog to be with - we think this could also help her to raise her confidence. Understandably, Maxie is not a confident dog - she has had so much change in her life. She needs a family committed to working with her to build her confidence through training.
Maxie is:
5 years old
Lab/maybe shepherd mix
65lbs
Wonderful with her foster family and kids - she is wary of new people who come into the house so slow intros for her are key
Great with dogs and would love a playful/confident dog pal
Not tested with cats
Potty trained
Good on leash although she walks slowly
Nervous in the car
Kennel training is a work in progress - she goes in very unwillingly but she settles down once she's in
Maxie playing legos
Maxie adores being around the kids in her foster family and even helps build legos!
Fun in the sun
Maxie enjoys stretching out and rubbing herself in the grass on a sunny day
