Sgt. Pepper (or Sarge for short) came to us as part of a cruelty case. When he was brought to the shelter, he was completely matted - he needed to be shaved completely so he could be comfortable and free of his past. Now his coat is growing in beautifully and he looks like a shampoo ad model. 

Sarge is a long and low boy - we believe he is a mix of Poodle, Dachshund and maybe Terrier? Your guess is as good as ours! Regardless of breed, he is a kind, silly, playful, cuddly and loving boy. He loves playful dog pals but REALLY loves his humans. He is a total velcro dog and wants to follow his person from room to room and snuggle as much as possible. 

He is WONDERFUL but he has challenges around food guarding due to his past. He is gentle and sweet in receiving food from you, but you cannot take food away for him or he will show aggression. This is not atypical of a dog that has come from a cruelty case - he very likely had to fight for food every chance he got. In fact, 20% of dogs have some form of food aggression but it is VERY manageable. He is already showing major signs of improvement in his foster home and can happily sit and wait for his dinner next to other dogs. He just has to eat by himself so he can be in a calm state of mind. If you can manage this behavior, he is a true DREAM DOG. He may be best in a home without another dog so it is easier to manage. However, he is great with other little dogs. We would also not adopt him out to a family with children to avoid any potential incidents.
